Dannevirke is situated on the eastern side of the North Island, on State Highway 2, approximately 40 minutes north of Palmerston Nth. and about 75 minutes south of Hastings.

It's worthwhile taking a little extra time to look around Dannevirke. Our Scandinavian heritage is of great interest, there are a number of excellent bush walks within easy reach of the town, and mountain trails up the nearby Ruahine Ranges. The town has a particularly good golf course, a Sky Diving School and the nearby rivers provide excellent trout fishing.

The FANTASY CAVE in the ANZ Bank building in the centre of town is becoming internationally famous and is open throughout the year on Saturday mornings from 10.30am to 12.30pm plus extra days in the School Holidays and on Public Holidays. It can also be opened to tour groups if booked in advance.
